Marine Detachment 876 Helps Local VA Nursing Home

Since 1993 when The Emory Bennett VA Nursing Home opened, the Flagler County Marine Corps League Detachment 876 adopted them and have been bringing home-cooked and store-purchased food on the first Saturday of the month to the veterans within.
Volunteers spent hours with the residents until Covid shut them down and Wendy’s on Old Kings Road partnered with Detachment 876, donating hundreds of chicken nuggets (see picture below). Last year during Covid the detachment donated a pizza party for 15 months at a cost of $275 monthly.
On April 27, 2022 at the Flagler County Auditorium the detachment presented to Flagler Palm Coast HS JROTC Cadet Colonel Patrick C. Galloway The Alice Messinger JROTC Memorial $500 Scholarship and on May 4, 2022 at The Matanzas HS Auditorium Matanzas HS JROTC Cadet Command Sergeant Major Marine Brandon Gonzales will be presented with the Henry RED Gensch JROTC Memorial $500 scholarship.
On May 7, 2022 there will be a Mothers Day BBQ at the Palm Coast VFW. The detachment will also be hosting a pizza party for future Marines on May 17, 2022 at the detachment’s membership meeting at the VFW. All of these events are open to the public and the detachment encourages everyone to attend.
